This is a great shot that's pretty easy to set up and make. I've seen this done so that after the set up is complete a piece of paper or napkin is placed over the balls so that you can no longer see them. That way the eight ball just runs out from the napkin into the pocket... pretty cool! I recommend, as with all of the trick shots I show here, to try this at least once on the table you will be doing the shot on. This way any adjustments can be made ahead of time. Here's the layout of the table:
Place the 8 on the footspot. The 1 & 4 are frozen to the eight in a direct line of the middle diamonds. To check this, place a chalk on one diamond and then get down to eye the balls from the other diamond, you should be able to see if there is a ball out of line from that angle. Now, freeze the 2 & 3 to the 1 ball leaving approximatley 1/4 inch gap to the 8 ball. Do the same with the 5 & 6 to the 4 ball. Now, pick up the cue ball and ask your observers to call a pocket for the eight ball. If they call the side pocket, place the cue ball in position "A" as per above diagram (one by one diamond out from the corner pocket). Then hit the 3 ball full with medium speed. Just mirror the image if the other side pocket is called. If the crowd called the corner pocket by the set up of balls, place the cue ball in the one by one diamond position below the side pocket and hit the 2 ball full. Now... if the person calls either of the two corner pockets up table... you've got to be a little tricky!!! Lay a cue down on the rail at the side pocket (see the cue on the above table?) Then shoot the shot as if you were shooting the 8 into that same side pocket. Give it a little harder hit and the 8 will run into the cue and then float up to the corner! Good Luck!
