I know this doesn't seem like a trick shot, but there is a trick to it, and when you get it to go, it's very impressive!!! First you'll notice the cue lying on the table... this program doesn't allow me to break the cue down, but you really only want the butt part of the cue on the table from the corner pocket edge along the rail. The cue is a 'cheat'. It allows for error on the two rail cue ball shot, the cue ball will come down hit the cue and slide into the corner. Trust me, people don't care you are using a cheat... once they see the shot, they don't even think about it. So, with the cue broken down, line up 9 balls flush with the cue. I like to put the first 6 balls from the joint down then I leave a big break and place the last three balls from the butt up (make sure you have enough room between the balls to make them in the pocket.) The cue ball is placed flush with the rail, the top part of the cue won't be there, below the side pocket. This is adjustable so find a spot you like and just stick with it.
Hit the cue ball first. Actually when you sit down to practice this shot, just keep hitting the cue ball to get the correct speed. You need it to just float into the pocket. When I hit this shot, I think to myself, "Just more than lag speed." It becomes a mantra in my head! Once you have the speed for the cue ball down, set up the other balls and just practice hitting them into their designated pockets. If you are a good, disciplined player this part of the shot will drive you nuts!! See, you have to just 'know' where the pocket is (they don't move... so you'll get it!) and DO NOT watch the balls drop in the pocket!!! Every nano-second counts in this shot! Just concentrate on getting a good fast hit on the ball and only look at the ball as you strike it. As you can see from the diagram, the cue ball will cross the path of the balls going into the far corner pocket. Here's the trick to the shot.. are you listening??? ... ok, hit the cue ball and then fire the first ball into the corner.. now WAIT! Let the cue ball cross the path, and then fire the next two balls into the corner, shift and hit the next three into the side.. big body shift and fire in the last three balls into the corner. Looking at the above diagram, the balls will drop in in this order.. 9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1, and then the cue ball LAST!!!
This is a new shot that we have on the pro tour. Nick Nikolaidis, nicknamed Quick Nick, shot this shot in September at Comet Billiards in NJ in the tournament. He is just unbelievably fast!! Hence his nickname! He had so much time, that he WAITED for the cue ball to hit the cue, get close to the 3 ball, and THEN he fired in the last three balls... it was GREAT!!!
This shot is addictive, so only try when you have a lot of time!! Good Luck!!
